The estate is best known for the historical accident that shaped it: when the appellation was delimited in the 1930s the owner refused the surveyors access to his walled hunting park, so a substantial block of ground that is geologically identical to its Chateauneuf neighbours remained classified as Cotes du Rhone. That land, sandy soils over clay with pockets of gravel, is the source of the estate's Cotes du Rhone bottlings. The domaine has been farmed organically for many years and is certified.
