Only two Spanish appellations hold the top DOCa or DOQ classification, and Priorat is one of them, alongside Rioja. Clos Figueras was founded at Gratallops in the 1990s by the wine merchant Christopher Cannan, on old terraced parcels of Garnacha and Cariñena that had survived the region's long decline.
