Exception draws on some of the family's finest, oldest and rarest reserves, with distillations beginning in the 1920s and a proportion of the blend dating back to 1905 and 1906. Alongside the Ugni Blanc that dominates modern Cognac, the older components include Colombard and Folle Blanche, both once widespread and now extreme rarities in the region, the latter prized before phylloxera for its floral aromatics and fragility in cask. Decades in Limousin oak and then in glass have given the blend the deep rancio character that only very long ageing produces.
