The fruit comes from a 2.7-hectare plot in the southern sector of the appellation at Pont-de-l’Isère, on deep alluvial ground rather than the limestone hillsides further north, and the vines are now reaching 40 years of age. Grapes are pressed as whole bunches and fermented with indigenous yeasts in a mix of one-year-old 600-litre demi-muids and stainless steel. Because the soils and the low yields of old Marsanne give a naturally rich wine, Maxime Graillot arrests malolactic conversion to hold on to acidity, and bottles under screwcap for the same reason. The result is amply textured but focused, finishing with a little grip and the gentle warmth ripe Marsanne brings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBest over the next four to six years.
