The Mellot family have made wine here since 1513, and for eighteen generations the eldest son has been christened Alphonse; the nineteenth generation, Alphonse Junior and his sister Emmanuelle, now run the domaine. It works around forty-seven hectares, of which thirty make up the Domaine de La Moussière on the slopes below the town, on marl, Kimmeridgian limestone, flint and clay, farmed organically and certified biodynamic. Edmond honours the father of Alphonse Senior and is drawn from the oldest parcels within La Moussière, vines running from forty years to a century and beyond, cropped at around 40 hectolitres per hectare.
