Les Épenottes lies at the southern end of the Beaune premier crus, immediately adjoining Pommard, and the affinity shows: there is plenty of clay in the soil here, and the wines tend towards a layered, generous shape rather than the leaner style found further north in the appellation. Antoine Jobard's parcel is close to a hectare and the vines are approaching 40 years old. The reds are handled in much the same spirit as the whites, with restrained extraction, very little new wood and bottling after around a year on lees, so the wine keeps its perfume and its structure without any obvious oak sitting on top.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproachable from two or three years and good for a decade.
