Pierre-Marie Chermette has worked the vineyards around the homestead here for decades, and the method has not changed: traditional whole-bunch, semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete tanks, then maturation split between tank and old oak casks. Where his Moulin-à-Vent and Fleurie bottlings are built to age, the aim with Les Griottes is a light- to medium-bodied wine that is bright, cherry-fruited and immediately drinkable. The nose has the exuberance of a barrel sample, with wild-plum fruit and violet lift, and the palate follows with tangy berry and cherrystone.
