It has premiers crus of its own, the Clos de la Perrière and the Clos du Chapitre among them, and its reds are known for being sturdy, dark and slow to open, closer in build to Gevrey-Chambertin next door than to anything in the Côte de Beaune. The vineyards sit on limestone with a good deal of stone in the topsoil and some heavier clay towards the road.
