Cuvée Mélanie, named after Daniel Bouland’s daughter, comes from a small, steep parcel within the lieu-dit of Tête Noire, directly above Château Thivin. The vines are around 70 years old and planted at 12,000 per hectare, a very high density that forces the roots down and keeps yields low. Bouland’s approach is consistent across the range: low yields and natural, whole-bunch fermentation, with little done in the cellar to shape the wine. Growers here credit that blue volcanic rock for the distinctly mineral cast of Côte de Brouilly compared with its neighbours.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGood now and will hold five to eight years.
