The Lorentine vineyard sits at the heart of the appellation on the red clay, limestone and galet ground of Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres, in the valley of Balouvière. The Armenier family, long-standing biodynamic growers at Châteauneuf, have spent years restoring life to what had been a neglected terroir, working the soils by cultivation rather than herbicide and farming organically and biodynamically. The blend is usually Grenache-dominant; here it was made from 40% Syrah and 40% Mourvèdre with 20% Grenache. Fermentation ran on indigenous yeasts and the wine was raised for 15 months in a combination of concrete, foudre and old wooden barrels, so the oak is a maturation vessel rather than a flavour.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproachable from two or three years and good for a decade.
