The upper section on thin soil over rock is traditionally the most prized, while the lower ground towards the road is deeper and heavier. Mortet’s vines sit in the lower part, but they are among the oldest in the clos at more than sixty years, and among the most attentively farmed, which is why the domaine has long made one of the vineyard’s better wines; other growers say as much. The style here runs floral and fine rather than broad, closer to Musigny than to the sturdier expressions of the clos, and the 2023 carries its close to 50 per cent new oak without strain.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWorth eight to ten years and capable of far longer.
