The vines sit on grey and blue Liassic marl, related to the soils found beneath parts of the Côte d'Or, though the Jura is higher, cooler and wetter, and its reds are lighter in frame as a result. The Côtes du Jura appellation runs the length of the vineyard between Salins-les-Bains and Saint-Amour, taking in both banks of the Revermont, and reds here are traditionally made without heavy extraction, often in older wood.
