The climat lies in the southern part of the appellation on the lower slope, where the ground is heavier and holds more clay than the gravelly sites higher up. David Croix farms 0.36 hectares here, spread over two plots of very old vines dating from the 1930s, which crop lightly and give small, thick-skinned berries. The fruit was fully destemmed and the wine matured for fifteen months with 20 per cent new oak, a slightly firmer hand than the estate uses on its lighter-soiled crus. The result is a denser, more compact expression of Beaune that reflects the clay beneath it while staying polished rather than heavy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBest from three years out to about ten.
