Its Pinot Noir grows on pale, thin soils over limestone. Les Fremiets lies at the northern edge of the commune, against the Pommard border, and is reckoned to give a slightly firmer wine than Volnay's southern climats. Faiveley has been in the same family since 1825, when the house was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges, and it is now one of the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy, with holdings from Chablis down to the Cote Chalonnaise.
