This wine comes from calcareous soils in and around Brézé: younger vines in Clos de Guichaux and Clos des Carmes, old vines from the Bas de Pentes terroir of Brézé itself, and a splash of Les Chapaudaises from Bizay. Clos des Carmes in particular sits on the chalky mother rock of the Brézé hill, just below the château, and these are among the crown jewels of the region. Plantings range from 1935 to 2012, so there is a good deal of old-vine material in the blend. All the whites here are whole-bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts. Historically the wine was raised entirely in tank; more recent releases are partly aged in tronconique oak to broaden the texture.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproachable now and capable of ten years or more.
