Meursault's Clos des Mouches is a half-hectare monopole belonging exclusively to Henri Germain and planted entirely to Pinot Noir. It could legitimately be labelled Volnay, as most reds from Meursault are, but the family chooses to call a Meursault a Meursault. The site lies near the Volnay border, due south of Les Santenots, and is one of the few remaining walled vineyards in the commune. The old Pinot Fin vines were planted in 1949 and yield under 25 hectolitres per hectare even in a generous year, which accounts for the density of the fruit. The wine is fleshy and layered rather than austere, and production is very small.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrink from release through the next decade.
