That altitude, and the south- and east-facing slopes, keep the fruit fresher than the valley floor allows. This is Olivier Klein's entry-level Côtes du Rhône, a blend of 70 per cent Grenache and 30 per cent Syrah, and he is explicit that he is chasing a vin de soif: juicy, floating fruit and floral perfume rather than extract. The wine spent six to eight days on skins, partly with whole bunches for lift and buoyancy, then six months in concrete. The result is pale ruby, crisp and fine, with supple tannins and a thread of minerality through the finish.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMade for early drinking over the next two or three years.
