Village-level sites vary widely here, and Les Mazures is among the better ones: rocky, limestone-rich soil, a southeast aspect and a position immediately below premier cru land on the slope. The Pillot family has farmed in Chassagne for generations and Thierry Pillot now makes the wines. Fruit is hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed, fermented with the vineyard's own yeasts and matured on lees in barrel, with new oak kept to a minimum so the site speaks.
