Les Mazures is one of the commune’s better addresses: rocky, limestone-rich soils, a south-easterly aspect, and a position immediately below Les Champs-Gains that goes a long way to explaining the class the wine shows. The Pillot family owns 0.63 hectares of mature vines here. The wine is made in the same way as the domaine’s premiers crus, with whole-bunch pressing, fermentation and ageing in barrel on lees and a restrained hand with new oak, so what reaches the glass is the rocky, textural character of the site rather than the winemaking. It is consistent from one year to the next, which is not something that can be said of every village Chassagne.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking well from release and good for six to eight years.
