That makes this a distinct corner of the appellation, quite unlike the higher, cooler terroirs further west. Les Charmois sits above Pitangerets, and although there is plenty of limestone influence, the soils are a little deeper here. That extra depth, along with a more westerly exposure, tends to produce a riper, fruitier and more generous wine than the Pitangerets bottling. Domaine Paul Pillot, based at Chassagne-Montrachet and run by Thierry Pillot, raises the wine with just 10% new oak, which keeps the emphasis on the site.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eReady after two years and holding for eight or so.
