Pierre Gaillard, based at Malleval, draws this wine from four sites: Côte Bellay, Les Patasses at Malleval, Boissey at Chavanay and La Caille in Condrieu itself. All sit on fine, decomposing granite, the soil that gives Condrieu its combination of perfume and drive. Yields here run at about 30 hl\/ha, and the wine spends seven months in oak, of which ten per cent is new. What marks Gaillard’s whites is the way intense aromatics and a ripe, hedonistic texture sit alongside genuine mineral refreshment, and this is a textbook example: richly textured, with honeysuckle and macerated peach, buoyancy and a long, stony finish.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBest drunk in its first three or four years.
