Pierre Gaillard began building his holdings here in the 1980s, when many of the terraces were still abandoned, and the domaine now farms across several sectors. This bottling is 90 per cent Syrah with 10 per cent Viognier, drawn from the schist soils of Fongeant and Viallière at Ampuis together with a parcel on gneiss at Semons in the south of the appellation. The fruit was hand-harvested with a strict selection of bunches and berries, then fully destemmed. Vinification began with a five-day pre-fermentation soak followed by regular punch-downs, and the wine spent eighteen months in barrique, half of it new, before being bottled unfiltered. The style is precocious and free-flowing, with a perfumed palate, gleaming freshness, seamless tannin and a fine weave of silky fruit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproachable early and good for a decade or more.
