Its many stone walls are known for retaining heat, which magnifies an already sunny microclimate and helps explain the depth and structure of the wines grown here. Pierre Gaillard, who built his estate across Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph and Condrieu, farms this parcel by hand, as the gradient demands. The fruit is entirely destemmed before crushing, and the cuvée ages for eighteen months in Allier and Nevers barrels, mostly new; the concentration of the fruit absorbs that oak without difficulty.
