The Clos de Cuminaille is one of the most privileged: three hectares behind old walls, facing east, which Gaillard bought in preference to a parcel of what is now the celebrated La Turque in Côte-Rôtie, a site he had helped plant. The vines are now more than thirty years old. Winemaking is the same as for the estate's regular Saint-Joseph but for a touch more new oak, a well-integrated quarter here. The wine is reliably the more textural and polished of the pair, showing pulpy plum and pastille fruit, grilled herbs and the sappy spice of the northern Rhône.
