Muscadelle, familiar from its supporting role in Bordeaux, is the most recognisable of the five sweet styles they make. This one comes from a parcel of forty- to sixty-year-old vines on schist and clay, cropped at a very low fifteen hectolitres per hectare. The fruit is dried on the vine, with some botrytis in certain years, and the wine is vinified and aged in old oak demi-muids, finishing at around 200 grams per litre of residual sugar. Phenolic grip from the extended handling counterbalances the fruit weight, and the acidity keeps the whole thing from sitting heavily.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA sweet wine that will keep for many years and needs only a small glass.
