Altenburg lies within the estate's home commune of Wachenheim, on limestone-influenced soils at the foot of the Haardt hills, a cooler cast of site that tends to give a more linear, tightly wound Riesling. The estate has been at Wachenheim since 1597 and works biodynamically with Demeter certification.
