Its soils are deeper and sandier, with loam and gravel over sandstone, which gives a rounder, broader Riesling than the basalt sites of Forst while keeping the estate's dry, structured signature. The estate, founded at Wachenheim in 1597, ranks the vineyard as Grand Cru in its Burgundian classification and has farmed biodynamically under Demeter certification since the mid-2000s.
