Frapin is unusual in drawing solely on vineyard it owns, some 240 hectares of Ugni Blanc around the Château de Fontpinot at Segonzac, where the family has farmed since 1270 and where everything from growing to bottling takes place. The base wine is distilled on its lees in small copper pot stills, and the eaux-de-vie age in Limousin oak in the estate's own humid cellars. Vintage cognac is rare because the stock must be held apart in a sealed cellar under customs supervision so that the single-harvest claim can be verified at bottling.
