The Beaujolais-Villages appellation covers thirty-eight communes in the northern half of the region, where granite and schist replace the clay and limestone of the plainer south, and where the ten cru villages also sit. Gamay is the sole variety, harvested by hand as the appellation requires and fermented whole bunch in the semi-carbonic manner traditional to the region.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eServe lightly chilled at around 13 degrees with charcuterie, roast chicken, sausages or a cheese board.
