The chapel of the Madonna stands on the hill above the village, a landmark for the whole appellation. Georges Duboeuf set up at Romanèche-Thorins in 1964 and made his name by selecting and bottling from a wide network of growers, an approach that put the cru villages in front of drinkers who had previously known only Beaujolais Nouveau.
