Platt \u0026amp; Riegl is a single site within it, sitting at 550 metres in the lee of the snow-capped Mount Mendola on gravelly, mineral-rich soils. Elevation and stony ground both shape the wine, as do the old vines and hand-harvesting. In the cellar, partial malolactic conversion softens the acidity and half the wine is vinified in a 5,000-litre oak cask, a format large enough to add texture without wood flavour. The outcome is more satin-textured and mineral than Pinot Bianco usually manages, with the alpine freshness of the region intact underneath.
