Girlan is a co-operative based at Cornaiano with a long record in the zone. This bottling blends two indigenous varieties, Lagrein and Schiava, with Pinot Noir, a grape the region has long suited. The Lagrein comes from the deep sandy soils of the Bassa Atesina, a warmer terroir that ripens the variety reliably, while the Pinot Noir and Schiava are grown on the sunny hillside vineyards around Cornaiano. Fermentation takes place in tank and old barrels, and maturation is completed in concrete vats, which keeps the fruit clear and the tannins fine. The wine carries the Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT designation rather than a DOC.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrink over the next three to four years with speck and rye bread, roast pork or mushroom dishes.
