The appellation divides into Côte Brune, whose iron bearing schist gives a firmer wine, and Côte Blonde, on lighter granite soils, which gives a rounder one; blending the two is the historic practice this bottling honours. Syrah dominates, with a little Viognier, which growers here have long co-fermented with the red grapes.
