In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries its wines were shipped to England at prices matching the first growths of Bordeaux, and were used quite openly to strengthen them. The appellation is small, a little over one hundred and thirty hectares, divided into named climats such as Les Bessards, Le Méal and L'Hermite.
