Henriques \u0026amp; Henriques is the leading independent shipper on the island and, unusually, farms a significant share of its own vineyards; it also holds deep reserves of old wine in cask and bottle, some of it well over a century old. Verdelho is the driest of the classic quartet apart from Sercial, so this is a medium-dry wine, fortified at a point that leaves modest sugar and lets the acidity lead. Decades in cask under the roof of the lodge concentrate it slowly and give the wine the dry, saline, deeply oxidative character that separates old Verdelho from the sweeter styles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eReady now and will keep for months after opening.
