It sits right beside the 1er vines, yet Franco d'Anna calls the two wines \"like chalk and cheese\", this one carrying less crop and so bringing more concentration and richness than the fine, linear 1er. Fruit came in by hand, went through the destemmer and fermented as whole berries in upright wooden vats of 3,000 litres, chosen because they hold temperature steadily afterwards and draw tannin out slowly.
