Les Houx, at La Haye-Fouassière, is among Jo Landron’s oldest parcels, farmed biodynamically. The mature, low-yielding vines are rooted in shallow sandy clay rich in quartz and shot through with iron, over gneiss and clay bedrock, and the site gives a denser, fleshier and more complex Muscadet than the norm. Even in warmer years its rocky, acid soils keep the wine fresh. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, and the wine spends a lengthy 18 months on lees. Around thirty per cent is now raised in Italian-made Tava amphorae, the rest in glass-lined concrete.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking well now and capable of a decade.
