Les Longeays is a continuation of the Les Quarts hillside, where the domaine holds 0.55 hectares. Where Les Quarts faces east over the Saône valley, Les Longeays wraps around the contour of the Vinzelles hill as it turns south-east; it is the warmer of the two and can be picked as much as a week earlier. The soils differ as well: Les Quarts has limestone close to the surface, while Les Longeays carries metres of deep red clay above the mother rock, which makes the wine's saline, iodine-like cut all the more unexpected.
