The first, Roncaglie in La Morra, was bought in 2015 and planted in 2017; facing east at 400 metres and looking towards Verduno, it is a cool, windy, slow-ripening site. The second is Bussia Bovi, a sub-cru within Monforte's Bussia MGA, at 320 metres in the south of Bussia between Bricco San Pietro and the area historically known as Bussia Arnulfo. The soils there are rich in sand, which gives perfume, supple fruit and delicacy, making it the counterweight to Roncaglie. The Bussia fruit is fermented as whole bunches and raised in concrete to keep as much fragrance as possible. Both vineyards would qualify as Barolo once the vines come of age, which says a good deal about what is in the bottle.

Drinking well now, with the tannins already svelte rather than austere. Serve at 16-18°C with roast veal, tajarin or a mushroom risotto.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
