Growers divide it between the terres blanches, pale, chalky and stony soils at the northern Morey end, and the terres rouges, iron-rich reddish clay towards Chambolle, and most holdings take in something of both. The result is a wine with more frame and grip than the commune's usual profile, slower to open and long-lived.
