It is by far the largest grand cru of the Côte de Nuits and the least uniform: the upper section against the road sits on thin, well-drained limestone scree, the middle on marl, and the lowest part near the RN74 on heavier, damper alluvial soil, so the name on the label tells you less than the position of the parcel. Pinot Noir is the only grape.
