Soils are shallow marl and limestone scree, exposure matters far more than it does on the main slope, and harvest usually comes a week or more after the villages below. Chardonnay planted here gives a leaner, more overtly citrus wine than the Côte de Beaune whites, and the best examples come from growers who wait long enough to fill out the middle palate.
