Planted in 1997 on a moderate, sheltered northeast slope at 300 metres, its red ferrous clay is littered with ironstone and quartz; most of the 23 hectares carries three Shiraz clones, PT23, BVRC30 and Best's Old Block, with Nebbiolo and a little Viognier making up the rest. Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis take all the fruit from their blocks and share the farming decisions, and he points to a common inky, spicy marker across all of them. The 2022 was destemmed, fermented spontaneously in a 3,000-litre cuve for twenty days, then returned to the same vessel for ten months.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRefined and delicate for the variety, with black pepper, dark berry and an inky, iron-tinged core over fine tannin. The cool season kept it lithe. Serve at 16 degrees.
