At 350 to 450 metres these are among the highest and most exposed vineyards in the area, and that elevation supplies the freshness and vibrancy that carry the wine. Barbera is naturally high in acidity and low in tannin, so oak has to be handled with care: Sandrone matures the wine in 500-litre tonneaux, 40% of them new, and has untoasted barrels made in Burgundy specifically for this cuvée so the wood impact stays as discreet as possible.
