The parcels differ in altitude, soil and exposure, so the wine reads as a survey of the appellation rather than one site. From the 2019 vintage the blend draws on five communes, Barolo, Serralunga d'Alba, Novello, Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d'Alba, the last from Le Coste di Monforte, a holding Sandrone had farmed since 2000 and only now includes. Fermentation starts with wild yeasts in tank, followed by malolactic conversion and ageing in mostly used 500-litre French oak casks. Between 20 and 30 per cent of the fruit goes in as whole bunches, with a high proportion of whole berries in the destemmed portion. Time on skins ranges from ten days to a month, total time in oak 20 to 22 months, and the wine is bottled unfiltered. A magnum keeps the wine on a slower path than the standard bottle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproachable now with a long decant, and rewarding over the next decade or two.
