The sites differ markedly in altitude, soil and exposure, and together they give a broad reading of the appellation in any given year. This is the second vintage to include Nebbiolo from the family's holding at Le Coste di Monforte, a Monforte d'Alba site Sandrone has farmed since 2000. As with Aleste, roughly 20 to 30% of the grapes ferment as whole bunches, and the destemmed portion retains a very high percentage of whole berries thanks to a modern destemmer. Macerations are managed carefully and gently, a little longer than in the past, with Luca Sandrone aiming to capture as much fruit purity as possible.
