Each year 10 to 15 per cent of production of the Nebbiolo wines is held back in the winery's underground cellars and re-released closer to maturity: six years after the harvest for Valmaggiore, ten years for the Barolos. Each re-release carries a stamp on the label to distinguish it from the original bottling. Le Vigne is the counterpart to Aleste and takes the opposite approach: rather than a single vineyard, it is assembled from parcels in several Barolo communes, each vinified and aged separately before blending. That breadth gives a wine that is lifted and perfumed where Aleste is deeper and more mineral. Maturation is in large Slavonian oak casks.
