The source vineyard for this cuvée is rugged and typical of the appellation, though the wine itself is not: it carries a texture, complexity and generosity rarely seen at this level in Saint-Romain. The Ponsot family, long associated with Morey-Saint-Denis, has always bought fruit here rather than owning the land, which is why the bottling now appears as Maison Ponsot rather than Domaine. A mésange is a small songbird, and the name is a nod to the lift the wine shows.
