massolino-barbaresco-2023
Massolino Barbaresco 2023

Massolino's Barbaresco classico is a blend of three Neive parcels, with the majority coming from the highly regarded Serraboella hill.

Barbaresco's four communes each have their own accent, and Neive is the one that combines perfume with real flesh. This bottling draws on three sites there. Albesani is the best known of them; Serraboella, which accounts for the largest share of the blend, lies in the eastern sector on a preferred southwest-facing slope over lighter soils; and Starderi, on the sunnier western side of the village, contributes power and body. The Massolino family, based in Serralunga since 1896, applies the same unshowy method here as at home: natural fermentation in large wooden fermenters, then eighteen months in 5,000-litre Slavonian oak botti, so the wood shapes texture without adding flavour. Assembling several parcels rather than isolating one cru gives a Barbaresco that is complete early while keeping the tannic frame Nebbiolo needs to age.

Ready on release but will hold and improve for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, agnolotti del plin or hard alpine cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
