massolino-barolo-2019
Massolino Barolo 2019

Massolino Barolo is the estate's classic Serralunga blend, first produced in 1911 and drawn from seven vineyard sites.

Serralunga d'Alba is the most structured of the Barolo communes, its narrow ridge of limestone-rich marl giving wines of firm tannin and long life. Massolino's classic cuvée is selected from roughly seven hectares across seven prime sites in the commune, the most important being Briccolina, Collareto, Broglio and Le Turne, all clustered around the town itself; Le Turne borders Margheria and Collareto adjoins Vigna Rionda. Some declassified fruit from the estate's Parussi cru is also included. Vine age ranges from 10 to 55 years. Recent releases mark a change in the cellar, with the Barolo wines now fermented in large wooden casks, or tini, rather than concrete, though half of this cuvée is still fermented in cement. Maceration runs for around twenty days on skins and the final blend is matured for thirty months in large Slavonian oak casks, a traditional format that builds structure without oak flavour.

Give it a few years and drink over the following decade, with braised beef, mushroom risotto or aged hard cheese. Serve at 16-18°C.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
